Acupuncture to relieve pain

Classical Acupuncture began as a part of traditional Chinese medicine. It consists of 14 meridians, each with its specific acupuncture points, which restore energy flow and balance to the body and, in turn, help relieve symptoms of pain.

The modern anatomical model of acupuncture chooses specific acupoints along the established meridians based on anatomical and physiological concepts. This model focuses on targeting the underlying anatomical structures that the practitioner feels are the source of the pain for the patient.

The insertion of a fine, thin needle in these points creates a physiological response, increasing blood flow, which promotes healing and inhibiting pain transmission through the production of natural painkillers like endorphins.

Lily Fremark has received Level 1 acupuncture certification from Acupuncture Canada and has been effectively using acupuncture as a pain modality for the past two years. She uses the anatomical model to select relevant acupoints to target the underlying anatomical structures involved in the main cause of pain specific to each patient.
