Concussion Treatment

Accurate assessment and outcome measurement of concussion is important. We use standardized tools such as the Rivermead Post Concussion Symptoms Questionaire, Vestibular Ocular Motor Screening (VOMS), Balance Error Scoring System (BESS) and Dynamic Gait Index to inform our treatment and results. In cases where dizziness is an issue, we check for vestibular issues such as BPPV and treat accordingly. We use gradual habituation exercises for motion sensitivity, along with progressive balance challenges for any balance impairment as recovery progresses. Visual tracking and gaze stability are integrated into dynamic gait training with head movement as appropriate. Headache and neck pain are addressed using our manual therapy experience along with advice regarding progressive management of light and sound sensitivity. Pacing is emphasized using planning and scheduling tools.
